One final time for 2024 and we conclude our 10th season and the 148th edition of the picks. I hope to see everyone back in this space for 2025 for the sesquicentennial.
Week 15: 3-1
Season: 79-25
Division I
Dallas Parish Episcopal over Argyle
Liberty Christian (24-45) -- Wrong
--The Warriors offense was too much in the clash of champions. The Panthers will no doubt be back in the mix soon after suffering their first playoff loss since 2018. Liberty continues its perfect mark in TAPPS finals and secures back-to-back crowns. Congratulations to the Liberty Christian Warriors on their 5th State Championship!
Division II
Fort Worth All
Saints over Houston Second Baptist (21-3) -- Correct
--The Saints were the best in the Division from the start of the season and their defense cemented their claim on the crown for 2024. Eagles fall just short again, and the battle for District 4 seems tough as ever. The geography of the Division makes it likely we see SBS in the title game again soon, but you wonder about missed opportunities. Congratulations to the All Saints Saints on their 1st (+7 SPC) State Championship!
Division III: Dallas Christian over San Antonio Holy Cross (21-18) -- Correct
--Both
defenses delivered on the big stage as the teams produced a classic
championship game. Luke Carney's squads never lost a playoff game as the
Chargers complete 4 consecutive state titles. Carney even sprung the
defensive MVP award for an incredible finale to an amazing high school
career at Dallas Christian. Knights just miss out again, but should be
back for another run next year. Big congratulations to the Dallas
Christian Chargers on their TAPPS leading 12th State Championship!
Division IV
Dallas
First Baptist over Bryan Brazos Christian (42-15) -- Correct
--The Saints started as the defending champions and were never seriously challenged for the top spot. It was a great season for the Eagles and a long climb back awaits, but their best season in program history is a great building block. Eastern Dallas County once again reigns supreme in the small school divisions. Congratulations to the First Baptist Saints on their 3rd State Championship!
And with that everyone is undefeated again...
